I’m a sucker for family photography at your home. But I understand that sometimes that’s not an option. So where do you go to take some photos instead?

Here in Worthing, we’re spoilt for gorgeous outdoor locations to use as a backdrop for your family photos. Let me introduce you to a few of my favourite places.

The 5 best outdoor locations for family photos in Worthing

No matter whether you just don’t like your home enough to get photos done there, whether you’d prefer to combine family photos with an outdoor activity or if you happen to just visit the area which means your home is not here. There are lots of reasons for you to opt for an outdoor photoshoot in Worthing over an in-home session.

So whether you’re familiar with the area or not, I’d love to introduce you to some of my favourite locations to not just shoot at but also to visit.

1. Brookland’s Park

I live right next to Brookland’s Park so naturally I’m a frequent visitor. Over the past couple of years, a lot has been done to improve the space. The whole park is still undergoing restoration with a new playground being fitted. I’m also eagerly waiting for the cafe to be built 🙂

The park is really big with lots of wild greens and trees, a picnic area, a lake and an outdoor gym. It’s perfect for a few hours of hanging out with the kids while enjoying some calm and nature.

Plus, it’s literally across the road from the beach.

I visit the park multiple times per week and love discovering new corners that are slowly being finished. It seems that not a lot of people really know about this park and its recent improvements so it’s currently still rather quiet. Let’s see how that changes once the playground is done in early 2023.

By the way, parking is available and very inexpensive. There’s also a bus stop for those that don’t drive.

2. Worthing Pier

I don’t know about you but I’m a fan of piers. Might have to do with the fact that I grew up in the middle of Germany with 5 hours of driving between me and the sea (and a pier). And while entertainment piers like the one in Brighton are really fun, I absolutely appreciate the quiet ones – like the one here in Worthing.

Apart from “Perch on the Pier”, there’s just some decoration a few seating areas and that’s it. That results in fewer people visiting which is always good for photos. I can be a little awkward when you feel like you’re being watched while having your own paparazzi with you 😀

The promenade by the pier is also perfect to get a little pick-me-up like a drink or an ice cream to make sure everyone is happy.

Plus when the low tide is particularly low, you can walk on the beach almost to the end of the pier, play with little puddles of seawater, seaweed and just enjoy how lucky we are to live in this place.

3. Worthing seafront

For those who are overwhelmed by the masses of people along Brighton seafront, Worthing is a perfect alternative. During summer it can get busy but a lot more manageable than Brighton.

Along the seafront, you’ve got the beach which is entertainment and a perfect photo backdrop by itself. But there are coffee carts and coffee shops, art installations, shops that sell products made by locals, a small park, a playground next to Splashpoint and beach huts.

You can walk for hours (if the kids play along), take breaks, dip your feet (or your whole body) in the water and just enjoy the sea breeze while having some natural photos of a day out to remember these moments by.

4. Beach House Park

Beach House Park is to the east of Worthing town centre. It’s also just 2 minutes away from East Beach Studios, a collection of local small businesses and artists along the seafront as well as the local swimming pool Splashpoint.

Again, this park seems to be less frequented than others, probably because of the proximity to the beach where most locals hang out. But it’s a beautiful space, very calm and big enough to spend a couple of hours riding bikes, having a picnic and sitting in the sun.

5. Goring Gap

It little further west along the seafront, we’ve got Goring Gap and Goring Gap beach. There’s a massive green field to run around, play games, fly a kite… You’ve got a beach that I’ve never seen very busy, beach huts (who doesn’t love a beach hut?!) and even a little forest that I only discovered this year.

This place offers so much visual variety for photos that I can’t recommend it enough as a location.

There’s also lots of free street parking and a car park which makes it super accessible.

These are my favourite outdoor locations in Worthing – not just for photos but also to just enjoy a bit of calm and serenity. However, there’s more to explore further out of Worthing.

Locations for family photos outside of Worthing

If you’re into sandy beaches, definitely check out West Wittering Beach. It’s a paid beach, very popular but it’s very big so even on busy days, you’d have space to spread out. Family photos on a sandy beach also always have a different feel to those on pebbles.

A little closer to Worthing is Littlehampton. While the town itself is not that exciting, the beach and seafront are beautiful. There are some art installations that double as climbing frames (even though I don’t think that was their initial purpose) besides being a funky backdrop for images. And lots of green spaces for picnics, BBQs and games.

And let’s not forget Brighton&Hove – for those who don’t mind sharing their spaces with more people in exchange for the beautiful scenery the city has to offer. Also, there is a unique flair in the place I’ve called home for 7 years that I haven’t found anywhere else yet. Stay tuned for another blog post highlighting my favourite outdoor locations for family photos in Brighton.

I hope these suggestions gave you some inspiration for an afternoon walk, a new place to take the kids or just somewhere new to explore. Let me know if you’ve been to any of these places and which your favourites are.

If this gave you a push to consider a family photo session with me – outdoors or at your home – get in touch now and let’s talk about what you’d like to have captured.
